Former Oyo State Governor, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has been crowned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The coronation took place at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East, after he first received the traditional Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba. He will later be formally presented with the staff of office by Governor Seyi Makinde at Mapo Hall.
Ladoja succeeds Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, who died on July 7, 2025.
The colourful ceremony drew a large crowd, with many guests in bright traditional outfits. Dignitaries included the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Ọlaoye, former Ogun State governor Ibikunle Amosun, and the Chief Imam of Ibadan.
To ensure order, the event was secured by DSS operatives and the Nigerian Army.
The Olubadan stool is highly respected for its unique succession system, making it one of Nigeria’s most admired traditional institutions.
